Higher Education More Affordable

President Joe Biden delivered nearly $140 billion in student loan debt relief to nearly 4 million Americans.

  • President Biden launched the SAVE PLAN, the most affordable repayment plan ever.  Over 2,500 South Carolinians have already received $20 million in debt relief.

  • Over $2 billion in debt relief has been delivered to 32,450 South Carolinians through adjustments to the Income Driven Repayment programs and Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.

  • Following a round table with Congressman Clyburn and U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm in 2022, South Carolina’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities were awarded a $20 million grant, bolstering efforts to create a diverse workforce of future scientists and engineers.

  • Thanks to President Biden, the $70,000,000 award from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to SC’s two land-grant institutions, Clemson University and South Carolina State, is the largest single award from a federal agency in the history of both universities. The Partnership for Climate Smart Commodities grant will provide resources and incentives to South Carolina’s farmers big and small, enabling them to employ climate-smart conservation practices.

  • Moving forward, every 2 months, 75,000 Americans become eligible for student loan forgiveness under the Biden-Harris Administration’s improvements to income-based repayment and Public Service Loan Forgiveness programs.
